Road Rally Scavenger Hunt Fund Raiser Sept 10th Register Sept 2nd

Sunday, August 28th, 2011

There’s a United Way Fund Raiser Rally being held that looks to be fun. Mark Saturday, September 10 on your calendar and come participate with friends and family in the 3rd Annual Alberta Justice & Solicitor General Road Rally and Scavenger Hunt!
What’s it all about?
Competing in teams of 4, there will be three main activities for you to complete The entry fee of $25/person includes $5 towards a light supper at the end of the event. The remainder of the pot will be split 50/50 between the winning team and the United Way Tools for Schools campaign.

Things to Find
You may find them in your closet or under your bed. You may find them in your Aunt Sophie’s attic or under your neighbor’s back porch.
One thing is certain … they will be unusual and a challenge to find!

Places to Go
Are we there yet? Well, that all depends on your ability to follow a series of pictorial clues on a map. Once you arrive, you’ll be rewarded with the next set of clues … and so on.
And with bonus points to be earned along the way, you’ll definitely need four sets of eyes! Whether you’re the designated driver, riding shotgun or just a backseat driver with a stake in the game, we promise you’ll have loads of fun!

Pictures to Take
A little different this year …with each leg of the race you’ll be given a number of 4×6 pictures that represent Photo Ops along the way.
To earn the points, you’ll need to find the exact location in the picture and snap a pic of a teammate standing in for the Photo Op!
All you need is a good eye, a digital camera, and your cheeriest smile!

How do you get in on the fun?
Approach your friends, adult family members or co-workers to make up a team of 4. Reserve Saturday, September 10(10:30AM – 7:30PM) on your calendar. The event will start and end at the High Run Club (4926 – 98 Avenue). A light supper will be provided following check-in at 5:30PM, with the winning team announced by 7:30 PM. This year we’ll have volunteers at each location to score your answers from the previous leg – so the scoring process should be much faster.
Complete and forward the registration form (along with the $25/person entry fee) to Debbi Piech (Solicitor General, IT Branch, 9th Floor, Brownlee Building) or Charity Piech (Solicitor General, Edmonton Young Offender Branch)

Gibbon’s Garage Sale & Western Classic’s Visit

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

Gibbon’s annual garage sale is coming up. Largest garage sale in the county with over 200 venders located on the streets of Gibbons

Saturday, September 10, 8 AM to 5 PM. Meet at the Petro Can at 137th Avenue and Fort Road for an 8:30 AM departure to Gibbons for their Annual Town Garage Sale. We will try to park in front of the Fire Hall at 50th and 49th as we have in the past. At around 3 PM we will head out to Rod Thomas’ Western Classics for a visit and tour. Bringing a beverage and lawn chair to Rod’s would be a good idea. Note that there is a short section of gravel road road en route to Western Classics. It’s been said that the 1st part of the run is for the better half and the last part is for the motorheads. Though last year the motorheads bought more at the garage sale than the better halves. See you there. Any questions contact Frank French, contact info in the newsletter or on the web site.

“Clifford E. Lee Nature Sanctuary” Sunday, September 4

Friday, August 26th, 2011

We will muster at 11:00 a.m. at the Royal Alberta Museum for an 11:30 departure and travel a distance of roughly 30 KM south west and do the 1.5 hour stroll along the boardwalk. Terrific viewing of the marsh world, a habitat that teems with animals and vegetation. Bring a picnic, lawn chair, binoculars and a camera. Being prepared for the weather at hand will be a good idea. As this is a walking experience (an easy stroll), bring walking shoes. At 11:30 AM we will head towards the Whitemud Freeway This is a short 6.1 KM stint from the museum to the freeway. Once on the Whitemud, keep going west past the Casino (on our left) where the road reduces to two lanes. The brown sign “The Clifford E. Lee Sanctuary” with “Ducks Unlimited” at the bottom welcomes us to the sanctuary

The sanctuary is not well signed after this point, so watch for a small parking lot at the 30.3 KM point. Turn right and park. There is room for about ten cars plus there is room to pull off the road and park adjacent to the parking lot. A trail map is posted in the entrance way and the picnic area is a little further in. After our stroll, we’ll relax and have a bite to eat in the picnic area. Maps, info and directions will be handed out at the muster point. www.cliffordelee.com Brian, Dennis and Howard.
