May is just around the corner, and we have three events in the first weekend!

We have the Red Deer swap meet on May 3rd & 4th (Friday & Saturday) that will be attended by a group on the Friday afternoon following lunch at Route 99. Saturday will be OYO.

Saturday May 4th we have the 780Tuners members hosting the Season Opener at United Cycle on Gateway Blvd. It starts at roughly 7PM in the evening and is open to any and all cars. There will be a BBQ and a raffle. All proceeds go towards the Edmonton Humane Society.

Sunday May 5th we have Phil’s English Breakfast, May 15-19th is David Connolley’s Mini Vacation in Vegas and May 25 & 26th is the ECSCC body work course at Phil’s shop in Bardo, AB. Note that High Tea at Rutherford House on May 19 has been cancelled due to staffing and financial difficulties.

Also, at our General Meeting at the Royal Alberta Museum on Wednesday, May 15, Phil Johnson will be doing a 55 minute movie presentation entitled “The Ultimate Sports Car”. The movie was originally a documentary on Public Television many years ago and the cars featured include a variety of European classics as well as renowned race car drivers such as Sterling Moss.

On the evening of May 29th we will be doing the High Level Bridge Ride, hosted by Chris Bamford & Keith Wilson. It will cost $5 per person and $15 per family. Children under 6 are free. Proceeds go towards the Edmonton Radial Railway Society to cover the cost of the event.

History Road is also coming in Early June and the deadline for registration is May 15th. Please make sure that you have your club affiliation noted on the registration.

Please see our events page for more information or feel free to contact myself if you have any questions.

Thank you, and see you tomorrow evening at the ice cream run!

Still need some volounteers to take on some events this year as they don’t happen by themselves. Have a look, if there’s something there you think you can do.. give Geoff a call or an email.

The little blast of warm weather has some of the membership talking Sports Cars again. We hope to have a wonderful season this year with better ice cream runs and other events to keep people blasting about in their sports cars. The only way this can happen of course is if people step forward and host events. It’s not difficult and there’s help available as well.
The Big Planning meet is coming up in in a week or so, the February Meeting at the Royal Alberta Museum meeting room is where we map out the events. Have an idea for an event? Want to share the co-ordination, that can work. Figure we need to go somewhere at sometime to see something, let us know. There are plans afoot for a big run to Corvallis Oregon to the MGB get together in July.

But that means we’ll need people to step forward and go to a couple of shows a little closer. Lloydminster is the home of one of our members and he worked out a route for us last year to Lloyd which was a great little drive. This year he’s offered to do the same for those continuing on to the Saskatchewan British Car Club’s Show in Saskatoon. Last year they named the Bessborough hotel as the hotel of the meet but it was a bit late for us to change venue. If they do the same this year I’d say go for it as it’s a classy place in the same way the Hotel MacDonald is here in Edmonton. Both shows are fun and different. The runs are long but I think worth it. Not sure if anyone is going to Vancouver for their All British as that’s pretty early but then these are things that are up for discussion at the meeting.

Hope to see you there and we hope there are some returning runs and some new runs as well. There’s one way to find out and that’s to come to the meeting, Wednesday February 20th at the Royal Alberta Museum 12845-102nd Avenue. 7:30 p.m. See you there… Oh the treasurer asked me to remind you that dues are due the end of March and paying at the February meeting is a good way to get it done.

The Christmas Party was a good success with a great selection of foods. Norm’s Business provided some wine at the table which was appreciated by everyone. The awards were handed out and entertainment took place. Jonathan led us in a great sing a long with live musical accompanyment. And so we wrapped up the years events.

Ho Ho Ho… Santa knows…

Looking forward to new events this coming summer. The AGM takes place the 3rd Wednesday of January and Howard Jewell is the returning officer if anyone wishes to step forward. Some of us are stepping back and going on to other adventures.

The planning meeting will be Feburary’s event, and remember they all take place at the Royal Alberta Museum on the third Wednesay of the month. Except December when we don’t actually meet.

Lots of events, maybe some long runs too… some dates are changing at events we go to as shows try to settle in with less conflicts. The Alberta All British Field Meet is on next year. There’s talk of a group going to the NAMGBR meet in Oregon and if Frank’s MGA was running he’d probably go to the NAMGAR GT in North Carolina. The Lloyminister and Saskatoon shows should be running the same time and it’s nice to show the flag with our lone member in Lloyd and then join the Saskatechawan All British folks in the Toon. So plan on exercising the cars this year.. they’ll be better for it.

From all the Executive we wish everyone the best of the season and a very happy new year.

We start of November with the Last Run of the Year which is Alec’s Pie Run. Not to be missed if you like good pie. The runs have been interesting and not too long. We’ve had good weather the last couple of years to so lots of sports cars out on the run. That being said it is the last run and goes rain or shine or even snow. Check out the events listings to see where to meet and all that fun stuff.

Next up is the traditional Guy Fawkes Bonfire Night, we’ve been tagging along with the St. George’s Society of England’s event for the past few years, Restrictions at their last venue have them moving to the Scottish Society’s hall for the event on November 5th. This is an OYO event which means on your own but there are usually a few members who go so we’ve set up a muster point fairly close to the Scottish Hall. Tim Horton’s at 11103 Ellerslie Road SW near 111th Street. Check the event page yet again for more info. There is a fee for this event, $10 per car and the food’s and beverages are a buck, a buck a buck depending on how much you want.

A bit of Business after that with the Noggin and Natter Executive Meeting happening on Tuesday November 13th at Fargo’s Restaurant 5804-Terrace Road
Edmonton, AB T6A0B8. Meet at 6 and then do some business, pause for dinner and continue afterwards. It’s 2 for 1 steak night which was one reason for the change. See you there?

Finally we’re wrapping up November with an early Christmas event. November 25th sees us at the Snow Valley Facility where we’ll have a buffet style meal. Slide presentation running in the back ground through out the evening and after dinner, we’ll enjoy some live entertainment with Jaunty Jonathan Smethurst and his musical accompanist. In addition of course the annual awards will be handed out to those lucky participants on events this year. The place is supposed to be huge, there’s even an elevator to get some of us upstairs. Fireplace for ambiance and good friends enjoying a good time as well. Hope to see you there. Tickets from the executive or even by mail if you’re quick. (pick up at the door) December is a quiet month and we’ll be back in the new year.

Not a lot scheduled for October. We start off on the 6th with the Smoky Lake Pumpkin Festival. Usually a good run and an enjoyable time espeically if gourds are your thing. It’s an On Your Own run with a muster point at the Petro Canada Station on Fort Road and 137th. Departure time is 8:30 as it’s a fair drive up to Smoky Lake. You can check out www.smokylake.ca for more info.

Still on the schedule is the Scenic Drive and Walk.. though the birds might have departed for warmer climes it’s still a nice day in the country. Dennis and Howard are running this one with further information to come.

The last event and this is a come hail, sleet or snow, in your sports car or in your regular car. The Last Run of the Year. A good drive somewhere around Edmonton and then finish off at the Grace United Church where Alec and Rose and a few others will have a fine selection of pies and hot beverages to finish off the event in fine form. There are a few of us who hope no one shows up and we can fill the plastic containers with pie. Alec can make some mean pies.. Though I didn’t really mean no one show up, just not too many.. It’s a fine wrap up to the sports car season. That’s November 4th 12:30 p.m. at the Royal Alberta Museum for the departure at 1:00.

The Guy Fawkes Bonfire Night has changed local as the site last year didn’t allow for the full festivities. This year it’s at the Edmonton Scottish Society 3105-101 Street Southwest. Gates Open at 6:30 and the fire is at 7:00 Fireworks at 7:30 so the kids and grandkids can still get home to bed in good time, and some of us old folks too. Cost is still $10 per car and we’ll have more info as to muster point and all that coming up shortly.

And we all can get together again for the ECSCC Christmas Party. This year we’re at the Snow Valley Ski Club on November 25th (beating the Christmas rush) It’s a buffet syle meal with Turkey and Roast Beef as the mains and loads of other fixin’s to go along. Big companies use the venu for their Christmas do and so we’re hoping for a good event and an even better turn out. Costs are high but pretty much what they are anywhere in town. A fair amount of research went into choosing the venu. $45.00 per person with a cash bar. More info on the events page here on the website. Save time, buy your tickets from any of the executive and pay for your membership at the same time.

September starts off with some members making the dash to the Portland All British Car Show. It’s a long way but should be a good time. Interested in a last minute addition contact Jonathan Smethurst. The next weekend (September 8th) finds us doing a morning run to Gibbons for the Garage sale and then a dash across the country to the Tractor Fun Day at Phil Johnson’s in Bardo (near Tofield) Could be an interesting run.The Bird Walk resheduled from August has been rescheduled yet again with a date to be announced in October.
We have the EConnolley Run to see who gets the closest to predicting their mileage and the Fall Colours Run, out and about to see yellow leaves, both good events ending up with good food.
Sunday the 23rd sees us meeting at McDonald’s in Leduc.. and ending up in a roundabout way in Fort Saskatchewan. Then Saturday the 29th is the Fall Colour run starting at another McDonald’s (fueling people too) and has a good run through the country around Lac Ste Anne and ending up in Spruce Grove for a meal. Both are fairly long runs and should be fun as the organizers have run the routes before hand. For more info on all the club events check our events page.

Having dried out from the active month of July we’re rolling into August. Starting with the Tofield Car Show on Holiday Monday and then Rock’N August up in Saint Albert starting mid week. Both items are over in Events so check them out.

For the more adventuresome there’s the On You Own run to Rally in The Valley. It appears to have returned to it’s roots and could be a fun time for someone wanting to do a run through the mountains. This year it’s in Peachland and registration is at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 11th. You might want to head out Friday or Thursday, what the heck the day after the long weekend. We cap off the second weekend in August with a drive and a Scenic Bird Watch walk though muster info isn’t here yet.

We just keep on going after that with Bones on the Prairie ~ The run to Drumheller, a mix of tuner cars and classic vehicles, it should be a fun run. That’s the weekend of August 18th, back on the Sunday. The Crusin’ for a Cause day is August 23rd, usually a good turn out for our group and we tend to go to the A&W on 137th Ave south of 127th Street. Lots of cars to look at and very very long lines to get your teen burger with a dollar from each burger sold going to MS Research.

Following that we have the Cooking Lake Moraine Auto Rally on Sunday, August 26th with more info to come. That wraps up the months events though we have a small group who says they’re going to Portland All British Field Meet. Jonathan’s booked his room and has room for a couple of more people. Either ride with him in the Jag S Type R or take your own vehicle. Big event… see the advert in the Open Road. And then we’re into September which looks just as busy, but you’ll have to wait a bit for that info.
Or just check out the events pages put up by our own Howard Jewell… yeah Howard!

July starts off with the Ukrainian Historic Village Canada Day Celebrations. Lots going on at the site and a perfect place to start the fun this July. The club has a number of events happening though it really gets busy towards the end of the month. The Econo run is July 15th and Mike says he’s got a good run lined up and a very good restaurant to end up at as well. Info will go out in an enotice and we’ll try and put it up here as well. The Indy is coming to town and some members are involved in that as well the weekend of the 21st sees the VSCCC European Classic Car show in Calgary and there are two shows for those heading to Brits by the Bus. Lloyminster is having a show Saturday and then Sunday is Brits by the Bus. We’re staying over after that and hope to find something to do in Saskatoon on Monday morning. The next weekend sees the Whitecourt Air Show and there’s a run to that as well. Then we’re into August and the Tofield show and Rockin’s August but we’ll talk about them later. Check out the events pages to get the skinny.
